Course Description:
This course combines Python programming with miniature autonomous cars equipped with sensors and cameras. Students will learn how to program in Python, and they will be exposed to fundamental AI concepts tied to the real-world application of self-driving cars.
Students will investigate the 5 Big Ideas of AI : perception, representation and reasoning, learning, natural interaction and social impact using robotic cars capable of all of these tasks.They will program cars using python to accomplish various missions within these topics:
- Intro to Programming & AI
- Programming & Computer Vision
- Programming & Object Detection
- Python & Data Visualization
- Python & Data Science
- Computer Science & Machine Learning
This course is specifically designed for Middle and High School Students. Please do not register your child if they do not meet that requirement.
Technology Requirements:
Each participant should have the following prior to the start of class.
- Modern computer system (PC, MAC or Chromebook) (desktop / laptop) with some form of IP Camera and either a wired or wireless connection to the home network.
- Highspeed Internet connection (minimum 6Mbps). Check your speed here.
Teaching Method:
This course is an instructor led class using the popular Zoom web-based online meeting application. Each day the instructor will actively lead the class thru two sessions. In the first session, the instructor will present the project for the day, then discuss the prerequisite concepts, skills and introduction to the project components to be used. In the second session, students will then be asked to build their projects with instructor guidance and supervision. Once the project is completed, students will be asked to complete a project worksheet designed document their work and explain in their own words the operation of the device they have built, along with the components used. The worksheet will be submitted to the instructor and graded. Grades along with instructor comments will be shared with the student and parents.
